Lake Superior Figure Skating Club skater Gaudalupe Raed DiBari had one of her best season skates this weekend at the Skate Ontario STARSkate Figure Skating Championships held in Wellington, ON this past weekend. The skate earned her the silver medal in the Pre-Juvenile (Under 14) category against some very tough competition.
"Guadalupe Raed DiBari recently won GOLD in the Northern Ontario Festival of Stars qualifying event held in Sault Ste. Marie in February, her next goal was to place in the top three in the province which would be a huge accomplishment," said her coach Kerry Bain.
"After qualifying at Festival, I knew my scores were high enough to place in the top three at provincials. I was the second of twelve skaters to skate, so I was on the edge of my seat throughout the competition waiting to see if my score would hold up against the rest. Now, with the silver medal, I am very proud and want to thank my Mom, coach Kerry Bain, my club and friends for their encouragement and support," said Guadalupe when asked how she felt coming home from the competition.
Guadalupe’s mother was very happy and proud of her daughter. "This silver medal marks the end of a year of hard training and dedication from Guadalupe and Kerry Bain, her head Coach. We are thrilled to end the season on such a great note and also want to thank the LSFSC for their support and encouragement," said Mrs. Raed.
The LSFSC coaching team and Board is very excited and proud of all five of the skaters who competed this weekend: Lilia-Anne Pelletier, Laura Baek, Cameron Smith and Emily Ferroni. "It was a great learning experience for our skaters, including some who were competing at a Provincial level for the first time. All skaters had a tremendous season and worked very hard to qualify for provincials and we are proud of all of them, said their head coach Kerry Bain.
